here I am, just the stranger in the storm wanting just a little warmth a place to hide my form so let me stay, once a king but now a knave give me calm beneath your shade a quiet place to lay my head down

you're right on time I was sure to lose my light it's all I can bear on the wild ascending stair beneath the stars, to dream a dream

just a little while with you

and I could sleep, a little while beneath the sheets with all my strength regained, stand up once and say that we can't stay, not with a smile or with a wave we are soon betrayed and lifting up that weight we stumble

but you could stay though we're born to fall away it's all I can bear on the wild ascending stair beneath the stars, to dream a dream just a little while with you
